FAQ

Common questions about the comparison

What is the most important difference?

The licence model. ERPNext is GPLv3 with no licence fee. Odoo separates an open-source Community edition from a paid Enterprise edition priced per user. Over several years, and with a growing user count, that is the line that moves total cost the most.

Is ERPNext cheaper?

On the licence yes, on the project not automatically. Implementation, customisation, operation and training arise on both sides and make up the larger part of the cost. Buying ERPNext as the cheap option means paying the difference in your own effort.

Which one fits our market better?

In both systems, chart of accounts, tax codes, document layout and a localised interface are configuration work. Odoo has the wider partner ecosystem here and more ready-made extensions, so ERPNext asks for correspondingly more of your own build. Check your specific requirements one by one instead of relying on a general statement.

Can we switch later?

Technically yes, both hand over your data and your source. In practice a switch stays a project with migration, testing and training. That is why the decision belongs at the start and not in the second year.

How do you decide in a specific case?

We map how your operations run, count users and sites, settle who operates the system and how deep the customisation goes, and cost both options over several years. The result is a recommendation with its reasoning, including when it comes out against an implementation.
